The job description of persons belonging to the career system of Aalto lecturers is focused on teaching. It is complemented by an agreed combination of research tasks, scientific community service tasks, and academic management. The division of working time between teaching and other duties is agreed upon separately.
People on the career path of lecturers at Aalto University have the opportunity to progress in their careers through regular evaluations, which take into account merit in all aspects of the job. The applied lecturer position is assigned to the Department of Chemistry and Materials Science.
The main focus of the assignment’s teaching is basic chemistry teaching, where laboratory, small group, and lecture teaching of the bachelor’s program in Finnish is particularly emphasized. The task also includes the digitization of basic chemistry teaching. In addition, the position may include teaching English in bachelor’s and master’s programs.
Placement on the career path of Aalto University lecturer is determined by the qualifications of the person selected for the position. In the initial phase of the career system, employment relationships are temporary, and university lecturers are recruited either for a temporary or permanent employment relationship.
The applicant is required to have a doctor’s degree. Previous teaching experience in higher education and/or pedagogical training is an advantage. When filling the position, research merits are also taken into account.
When making the selection, evidence of the development and application of versatile teaching methods is valued. The applicant is required to have the ability and interest in doing research work, and the application must show how the applicant is able to strengthen and support the activities of one or more research groups in their areas of strength.
Fluent English language skills are required from the applicant, and Swedish language skills are considered an advantage. Pedagogical education is required to advance in the career system.
