Hart House is a center for experiential education outside the classroom at the University of Toronto, Hart House functions as a place where students, faculty, staff, alumni, and members of the broader community connect with each other and the world.
Through an array of co-curricular programming in the arts, dialogue, and wellness, Hart House works with local and international partners to foster community and create innovative learning opportunities for students. Hart House operates from a historic facility on the St.
George campus, as well as a 150-acre farm in Caledon, Ontario, offers a wide range of services through a social enterprise model that generates revenue to support its student-focused programming on all three University of Toronto campuses.

The Hart House Theatre and Performance Art department engages a broad array of communities in the passion, vibrancy, and immediacy of theatre, music, and dance as artists, learners, volunteers, and audience members.
Through authentic artistic partnerships that enhance inclusion, pluralism, and representation, Hart House Theatre focuses on the development, training, and showcase of youth and emerging artists seeking to create innovative opportunities for expression and exploration.
Hart House Theatre and Performance programs facilitate audience engagement with offerings that inspire thought, laughter, and joyous applause.
Hart House Theatre & Performance programs support educational opportunities and workshops, provide volunteer roles on and off stage, facilitate student performance opportunities, and deliver stage productions in artistic partnership with others seeking to reflect diverse stories and communities.
Your opportunity:
Under the direction of the Director of Theatre & Performance Art, in concert and collaboration with theatre staff and the marketing and Communications Department, the Marketing Assistant will execute the Hart House Theatre Marketing plan across its wide spectrum of initiatives.
Working collaboratively across all program areas and departments of Hart House, as well as various campus and community partners connected to Hart House Theatre, the incumbent will apply best practices and strategies in Arts and Theatre Marketing to produce, develop and distribute promotional and outreach materials.
The incumbent will maintain and develop the Hart House brand and positioning of Hart House Theatre within the campus and broader theatre community in alignment with the overall reputational goals and objectives of Hart House.
The position will also support the experiential education opportunities and initiatives of Hart House Theatre, across its student-focused and community-engaged programming.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Creating and maintaining a presence on social media platforms by executing a pre-planned editorial schedule that promotes individual campaigns and overall brand awareness
- Writing, editing, and designing communications including but not limited to: digital newsletters, event/activity specific based content, invitations, media/public relations appeals
- Website content creation and maintenance
- Assessing, tracking, and reporting on marketing analytics
- Recommending audience development and sales tactics to improve engagement with the campus and Toronto theatre audience populations, fostering inclusivity and representativeness
- Key liaison with Hart House’s Ticketing staff and service
- Execution of any sponsorship deliverables associated with Hart House Theatre
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (Theatre Performance/Production and/or Marketing/Media Studies), or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of four years of Arts Marketing experience.
- Demonstrated experience working within a Theatre environment and Theatre based programming.
- Experience supervising and mentoring student staff.
- Experience engaging with student populations for student-led events/activities.
- Demonstrated experience and proficiency using social media platforms and tools.
- Experience with video editing and video software tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with MS Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and web-based e-marketing software tools.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusiveness in all work responsibilities and in collaborative work practices.
- Demonstrable ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment in a busy, deadline-oriented workplace.
